I'm new to Gnucash. I was able to connect to my credit unions website and link each of my accounts however I am unable to connect to my Chase credit card to download statements, this is the following error that I get:

18:16:51 Sending request...
18:16:51 Using GnuTLS default ciphers.
18:16:51 TLS: SSL-Ciphers negotiated: TLS1.2:RSA-AES-128-GCM:AEAD
18:16:51 Waiting for response...
18:16:52 Parsing response...
18:16:52 Parsing response
18:16:52 Status for signon request: Code 15510, severity "ERROR"
18:16:52 Status for account info request: Signon invalid (Code 15500, severity "ERROR")
The user cannot signon because he or she entered an invalid user ID or password.
18:16:52 Operation finished, you can now close this window.

I've tried setting the Header Version to 102 and 103 with the same results. My Client UID is blank and Chase was no help in what to do. I read on one of the post to "Generated a Version 4 UUID" however I'm not sure where to paste it. Do I paste it to Client UID under the User Settings tab, or in the Special Settings button under the Applications Settings tab? If in the Special Settings button, please specify each of the items listed in the button.

Also tried to access my Regions Bank account and this is the following error I get:

18:34:30 Sending request...
18:34:51 Using GnuTLS default ciphers.
18:35:52 TLS Handshake Error: -53 (Error in the push function.)
18:35:52 Could not connect to server
18:35:52 Operation finished, you can now close this window.

Thanks for your help

Taking the errors at face value it would appear that you don't have the right credentials for Chase--they may be different from the ones you use to access the website--and Regions doesn't support OFXDirect at all. The latter supposition is perhaps supported by http://www.ofxhome.com/index.php/institution/view/462, which last succeeded two years ago. Perhaps because they
might have changed URI. The OFXHome setup for JP Morgan Chase succeeded last week, check to make sure you're using the same: http://www.ofxhome.com/index.php/institution/view/435

I did log online to my Chase Credit card acct and make sure I did enable financial s/w access. I am still getting the same error.

I also tried to access my Bank of America credit card statement via Gnucash but this is the following error that I'm getting:

12:44:16 Sending request...
12:44:16 Using GnuTLS default ciphers.
12:44:17 TLS: SSL-Ciphers negotiated: TLS1.2:RSA-AES-256-GCM:AEAD
12:44:17 Waiting for response...
12:44:18 Parsing response...
12:44:18 Parsing response
12:44:18 Status for signon request: General error (Code 2000, severity "ERROR")
Error other than those specified by the remaining error codes. (Note: Servers should provide a more specific error whenever possible. Error code 2000 should be reserved for cases in which a more specific code is not available.)
12:44:18 Status for account info request: General error (Code 2000, severity "ERROR")
Error other than those specified by the remaining error codes. (Note: Servers should provide a more specific error whenever possible. Error code 2000 should be reserved for cases in which a more specific code is not available.)
12:44:18 Operation finished, you can now close this window.

I used the Bank of America - access.ofx (790), the 6 others Bank of America selections didn't contain access.ofx. I tried using a few of the other BOA selections with no success.

Hi David,

I'm frustrated because I really like Gnucash because it's pretty intuitive but if I can't connect to my credit card to download the details, the time it takes to manually enter it is just not worth it, I might as well buy Quicken.

One last try. Here is what I have setup for my credit card which is personal and not a business account. For the User Settings tab I enter my User Name as it appears on the credit card, User ID I use my user name/id that I use to login online. Client UID I leave blank.

For the Bank Settings tab: Bank Name Chase (credit card), Broker Id is left blank, FID is 10898, ORG is B1, Server URL is https://ofx.chase.com

Application Settings tab: Emulated Application Quicken Windows 2013, Application ID QWN, Application Version 2200, Header Version 102 (I've also used 103) and for the Special Settings button within the Application Settings tab the HTTP version is 1.1 (I've also used 1.0), Client UID is blank, Security Type is blank, and no check marks below.

When I hit the Retrieve button, I enter in the password I use to logon online. And this is what I continue to get:

>>> 18:16:51 Sending request...
>>> 18:16:51 Using GnuTLS default ciphers.
>>> 18:16:51 TLS: SSL-Ciphers negotiated: TLS1.2:RSA-AES-128-GCM:AEAD
>>> 18:16:51 Waiting for response...
>>> 18:16:52 Parsing response...
>>> 18:16:52 Parsing response

I've even changed both my online user name and password with the same results

Thanks for you help,

Daren

I can get ofx directconnect data from Chase (2 accounts, 3 cards - personal, not business, not amazon) and Citicards without a problem.

Did you set a UUID in the CustomerID field in Online Banking Setup?

OFX Direct Connect can be frustrating. There's another, often more straightforward way to get your transactions: Every credit card website I've encountered offers the ability to download transactions, usually offering QIF, QFX, or OFX. Use that to download however many transactions you want (if you're starting off it's better to do several one-month downloads to train the matcher), then use File>Import>XXX to import the transactions into GnuCash, where XXX is either QIF or OFX/QFX; select to match the format you downloaded.

Hi John,

Thank you for responding.

I'm not sure what UUID is unless it is a nickname you give the account. I have not nicknamed the account. I called Chase and they told me I can only download my statements as a PDF file which is the only format I see available on their website. Also Chase's online support is not familiar with a UUID.

Thanks

Paste it into the Client UID field.

As for downloading, it's usually a separate "Download transactions" item, often somewhere on the transaction list page, though other times hidden in a menu somewhere. That's different from downloading the statement, though one of my CC companies added "last statement" as a date range recently which would be great if it actually worked: it often cuts off transactions on the last day of the billing period.

Hi Daren,

I logged into my Chase business credit card web site and entered "Download
activity" into the search box. It tells the user 2 ways to get data. One
of them is a thing where you set the start-end dates and select from about
6 different file types. Then click the download button.

Hope this helps

So when I called Chase online support to ask about out to download my statements as a Quicken (QIF) file they were not aware how to but stated I could download it as a PDF file. I told them, I know I can download as a PDF but can they be downloaded with a different format like a Quicken format? They said no.

Well low and behold when you told me about the "Download activity", I saw under "Recent Activity" where you can download it as a Quicken file. What a bunch of idiots! How can they not know? I can go back 3 yrs to look at my statements only as a PDF file where as I can only go back 3 months under Recent Activity to download as a QIF file. I will ask them if I can get my older statements as a QIF after I remind them their recent statements are available as QIF file but they still may be too stupid to know. But at least now I can import the files for the last few months and from here on out into Gnucash without having to enter each transaction.

Thanks Greg and John R for your help. At least now I don't have to buy Quicken every 2 or 3 years according to people who say Quicken disables online services after 2 or 3 yrs forcing you to purchase an undated version.

Daren, I gave up on connecting to both bank and credit card a while ago.
I found it's not that difficult to download ofx files from the bank's web
site and import them into GnuCash.

There is some additional background at
http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Setting_up_OFXDirectConnect_in_GnuCash_2#Known_Problems <http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Setting_up_OFXDirectConnect_in_GnuCash_2#Known_Problems>
from the time that Chase changed their security policies.

I don’t think it’s a good idea ever to ask a bank support staff about gnucash. They have no idea what you’re talking about. And they’re likely to make things worse — for example, their inability to help you to think in terms of downloading transactions instead of downloading statements.

Anyway, you’ll need to log into the Chase web site to see if you have any secure messages from them. The deal now is that the first time you try logging in via something like Quicken or gnucash, Chase refuses the connection and tells you to check your “Secure Messages” to find one that has a link that allows you to confirm that the attempted connection was from you. If you were using quicken, I’m pretty sure it would throw up a dialog telling you to go to the web account and confirm the attempt was from you. The message info comes from a non-OFX side channel that I think Intuit calls their ‘branding server’. Aqbanking has no hope of handling Intuit’s proprietary side channel. Though, if you enabled aqbanking’s logging capability and looked at the raw ofx file returned, there’d be some additional info beyond the comm link connection log you can see in gnucash.

If you have any messages from Chase I’d recommend throwing them out and starting over.

You need the Header Version 103 in order for Intuit’s server software (run by the bank) to even attempt to deal with a ClientUID. You need the ClientUID so that the bank has something to hang onto that they’ve verified through the Secure Message. And you need to respond to the Secure Message that’s associated with the attempt using the ClientUID that you’ll need for every future connection. Anything less than all three for the connection you try will result in failure to have access to your ofx data from Chase.
