Wells Fargo Bank changes

I used to use Quicken long ago before I discovered gnucash. I use gnucash to download transactions from a checking account at Wells Fargo Bank. I am a USA resident. I do not use Wells Fargo for bill payment. Recently, since Wells Fargo probably still thinks I am using Quicken, I received the following email. I am currently using the setup I found at http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/OFX_Direct_Connect_Bank_Settings (Server URL: https://www.oasis.cfree.com/3001.ofxgp, FID: 3001, ORG: Wells Fargo).

Customer support at Wells Fargo, like most financial institutions, have never heard of gnucash and certainly do not support it. The instructions on their site basically say to remove Wells Fargo and add it back. Quicken will take care of setting everything up using the latest settings.

Does anyone know what changes I need to make in gnucash to continue to be able to download transactions?

I would be very suspicious that this is phishing.  Do nothing unless you have personally contacted Wells Fargo by telephone or secure internet connection.

I do not believe this is a phishing email. You can copy this URL https://www.wellsfargo.com/quicken/directconnect/upgrade and paste it into your browser and check the certificate.

I have Wells Fargo accounts, but only do manual downloads. They did, in
fact, just change the download backend. No phishing going on here.

After looking over the migration PDF, I think that you need to switch to these settings:
http://www.ofxhome.com/index.php/institution/view/749

If you're using a recent version of GnuCash and AQBanking, you should be able to select "Wells Fargo Bank (749)" from the "Select a Bank" dialog (click on "select" next to the bank name field in the Create User dialog box) to get these settings without having to input the settings yourself.

Other than that detail, I suggest you carefully follow the Quicken instructions for reconciling via Checkfree (www.oasis.cfree.com) before changing your online settings.

John Ralls

Here are the settings I used to access Wells Fargo OFX Direct Connect:

FID: 3000
ORG: WF
Server URL: https://ofxdc.wellsfargo.com/ofx/process.ofx
APPID: QWIN
APPVER: 1900

The original APPVER that I got from the link the John posted put 1200 as
the APPVER. This resulted in an error that I found in the ofx.log file. I
experimented with the "Wachovia" settings and I had success when I added
the APPID and APPVER to the Expert Settings in the User setup wizard.

Solved!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my posting about using Wells Fargo with gnucash. I am especially thankful to Robin – the APPID and APPVER is what got it working for me using the new URL, etc. I also had to uncheck the “Force SSLv3” checkbox on the OFX tab in the User Configuration. I sniffed my traffic and it is using TLS 1.0, which is just about as safe as possible right now. Now the real test is to see if this configuration keeps working after the deadline of 30 Nov. I will (of course) post back if any problems arise.

The URL in the ofxhome database is correct. I posted a comment with Martin's list of Intuit versions and values to use. I am thankful and very pleased with everyone on this list and the overall professional tone.

I think the changes are adding more security because Quicken (and gnucash) used to use a 4 digit PIN. Now the longer, more secure password is used. Here are the requirements for the password:

Must be 6 to 14 characters.
Must contain at least one letter and one number.
May not repeat the same number or letter more than 3 times in a row.
May not contain more than 3 sequential numbers or letters (such as '1234' or 'abcd') in a row.
